Nobody should spend supercharger money on faith. Twenty minutes here and you'll know how boost works, why fuel is the ceiling, what a dyno chart is actually telling you — and exactly which kit your machine wants. No tabs, no forums, no guessing.
We've built both for two decades — our shop put a turbo and a supercharger on one YXZ and made 550 hp. So this isn't tribalism. It's physics.

Our verdict for the Pro R, plainly: in sand and on tight trails, the pass happens in the mid-range, and mid-range belongs to the blower. That's why every Packard Pro R kit runs a Rotrex centrifugal head unit — the same Danish traction-drive family trusted at the very top of motorsport.
Your engine is an air pump. Naturally aspirated, it breathes at atmospheric pressure — about 14.7 psi at sea level, and less every foot you climb. Boost force-feeds it more air; more air burns more fuel; more fuel is more power.
The Pro R math, from our own kits: 8 psi turns 225 hp into 380 — roughly 19 horsepower per pound of boost on a stock engine. 12 psi (with fuel to match) reaches 460. 14 psi on E50: 500. The head unit itself is capable of 550+ hp and 22+ psi with supporting mods.
And altitude? A stock motor loses about 3% per thousand feet — Sand Hollow robs a naturally aspirated Pro R of ~20+ horsepower before you leave the trailer. Boost takes it back: that's why our pulley sizes are mapped to elevation. Run your numbers in the altitude tool.
Boost makes cylinder pressure; fuel decides how much pressure you're allowed before knock. Higher octane and ethanol resist knock and cool the charge — which is why every Packard tier is married to a fuel. Run the fuel your tune was written for. No exceptions, no mixing and hoping.
Pump premium. The daily setup — OEM drivability retained, fill up anywhere, still a 155–200 hp gain over stock.
Race gas. More knock resistance buys more boost — 460 crank hp with the included full exhaust. Jug fuel for send-it weekends.
Ethanol blend. Cools the charge, laughs at knock, and carries the flagship to 500 crank hp — with upgraded fuel system support included.
Peak numbers win arguments. Curves win races. Here's the thirty-second read:
The red line is horsepower, the gold dashes are torque — the shove in your back. The number everyone quotes lives at the top right; the pass you'll actually make lives in the middle. When you compare kits, compare the whole mid-range, not the peak — and notice our curves start pulling from the bottom, because centrifugal boost has no spool to wait on. Every Packard kit page shows its curve. That's the whole religion.
Boost doesn't kill belts. Mismatched clutching kills belts.
Double the horsepower through a CVT and the clutches must be recalibrated to hold the engine in its new power band — our 425 tune, for example, targets 8,200–8,400 rpm at max boost, and turnkey kits ship with the clutching spec to match. Follow the spec, check belt deflection, service on schedule, and boost becomes the most reliable thing on the machine.
Two honest rules to retire with: heat is the enemy — that's why our intercoolers run billet end tanks and dual fans — and the tune is law: the fuel and boost it was written for, nothing else.
